Joyce Kim, Co-founder and Managing Partner
Joyce co-founded Stellar, a digital currency payments platform that increases interoperability between diverse financial systems and currencies, both fiat and crypto. Stellar was the first cryptocurrency platform to focus on improving financial inclusion in the developing world by utilizing the efficiencies of crypto-currency platforms to create lower-cost financial services.
An expert in the cryptocurrency space, she has presented on cryptocurrency platforms for banks, governmental organizations, the UN and the Bank and has advised numerous crypto-related projects and ICOs.
She also serves as a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab. Prior to Stellar, Joyce was a venture capitalist at Freestyle Capital as well as an entrepreneur. She was also a corporate and M&A attorney and dedicated pro bono time at Sanctuary for Families representing immigrant women who were victims of domestic violence and the Innocence Project working on DNA exonerations.
Joyce graduated from Cornell University at the age of 19, followed by graduate school at Harvard University and Columbia Law School.
William Chu, Co-founder and Managing Partner
William is a Venture Partner at SparkLabs Global Ventures and the Managing Partner for SparkLabs FinTech in Hong Kong. He was Director of Lawman Group International, an apparel company with business in Greater China and the US. In 2014, William joined Zheng He Capital, a Hong Kong based private equity firm with a focus on fintech and healthcare, where he served as Executive Director.
Prior to Zheng He, William was President of Lawman Group where he spearheaded the US and China Operations. In addition to the eponymous Lawman brand, William launched the apparel lines Petrol and Heart of Stone in the North American market, and built distribution across the US and Canada.
William graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University.
Net Jacobsson, Co-founder and Partner
Net is Co-Founder & Partner at SparkLabs Global Ventures. He is a former Facebook executive, entrepreneur, and investor with vast international experience from many pioneering companies.
Net has been involved an advisor and investor in Crowdstar in 2009(acquired by Glu 2016), OpenFeint (sold to GREE for $104M), Playhopper (Founder), and P1 (Board of Directors). Net has also served as an advisor to King.com and was on the WEF Technology Pioneer selection committee.
Jay Mccarthy, Co-founder and Partner
Jay McCarthy is a Co-founder & Partner at SparkLabs Global Ventures. He is also a Partner at SparkLabs, a startup accelerator in Korea
Jay has more than 20 years experience in Asia. Currently, as a Managing Partner of Pacific Advisers, he has advised, financed and invested in a number of deals across industries, principally mining & energy, technology and property. In recent years, Jay has focused on originating investment mandates for PA to invest its own capital in both publicly listed and private vehicles. Such origination leads to co-investment opportunities selectively with the hedge fund and institutional investor communities. Jay has significant experience with structuring deals and working with their investor, industry and service (legal and advisory) counterparts.
Previously, Jay served as an Executive Director in the Equity Division at Morgan Stanley and worked in the Tokyo, HK, Beijing and Singapore offices over a 16-year period. Within this time, Jay served 2 years as Morgan Stanley’s “secondee” to China International Capital Corporation, their JV Chinese Investment Bank, as the Director in charge of the Equity Division and Capital Markets in Hongkong (& Beijing). Prior to that, Jay worked at Coopers & Lybrand in New York (USA). Jay graduated from Boston College in Newton, MA, USA and has basic speaking skills in Japanese
Dan Boneh, Advisor
Dan Boneh is Rajeev Motwani Professor in the School of Engineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering. He is a thought leader in applied cryptography and computer security with research such as this, “Privacy-preserving proofs of solvency for Bitcoin exchanges (2015).”
Professor Boneh heads the applied cryptography group and codirect the computer security lab. Professor Boneh’s research focuses on applications of cryptography to computer security. His work includes cryptosystems with novel properties, web security, security for mobile devices, and cryptanalysis. He is the author of over a hundred publications in the field and is a Packard and Alfred P. Sloan fellow. He is a recipient of the 2014 ACM prize and the 2013 Godel prize. In 2011 Dr. Boneh received the Ishii award for industry education innovation. Professor Boneh received his Ph.D from Princeton University and joined Stanford in 1997.
Wu Choy Peng, Advisor
Wu Choy was appointed GIC’s Chief Technology Officer on August 2017 to provide integrated oversight for technology and data analytics. GIC is Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund with over $350 billion under management. Before joining GIC, she was Group Chief Information Officer of Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel). From 2006 to 2012, Wu Choy was Group Chief Information Officer of Neptune Orient Lines Group. Prior to that, she held various senior appointments including the Singapore Government’s Chief Information Officer, Deputy Chief Executive (Industry) of the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) and Chief Information Officer of the Ministry of Education (MOE). She spent 10 years at the National Computer Board (NCB) upon graduation. Ms. Wu holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Computer/Communication Science/Mathematics and a Master of Science in Computer Science/Engineering, both from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Koichi Miyamoto, Advisor
Mr. Miyamoto has advised number of cryptocurrency exchanges on licensing issues in Japan and ICO related matters.
Mike Joo, Advisor
Mike has been the Head of Global Rates and Currencies Origination Business at Bank of America Corporation since January 15, 2013. Mr. Joo served as Chief Operating Officer of Global Markets of BofA Merrill Lynch (formerly Merill Lynch & Co.) since May 2009.
Ling Hao, Advisor
Ling is a partner of Hylands Law Firm since 2003. Prior to this, he worked for the China Securities Regulatory Commission for 4 years as a member of the Issuance Examination Committee where he reviewed more than 70 listed companies’ applications for their initial public offerings. As a member of the International Department of CSRC, he reviewed more than 20 overseas listed companies including the Petro China and the Sinopec. From 2001 to 2003, Ling was Vice President of the Investment Banking Division of Guosen Securities Co., Ltd, completing the IPO, SEO allotment of shares and convertible bond for many companies.
Moses Ma, Venture Partner
